ChatGPT image generation: what it does and misses
What a chat-based image generator is good at, where it falls down, and when a dedicated generator is the faster tool.

Generating pictures inside a chat window made image models normal. You type a sentence, a picture appears in the conversation, and nothing has to be learned first. That is a real advantage and it is worth saying plainly before listing what the format costs you.
What the chat format is genuinely good at
Conversation. You can ask for a change in ordinary words, and the assistant carries the context of everything said before it. For one exploratory image, thought out loud, that is the most comfortable way to work that anyone has built.

The pattern is the same in every row: chat turns settings into sentences. A sentence is a request the model may or may not honour; a control is a parameter it cannot ignore. When you make one picture that is a fair trade, and when you make thirty it stops being one.
The limits neither format removes
Text inside pictures is unreliable everywhere. Hands and counts stay approximate. A named real person comes back as a resemblance, not a photograph, and using that resemblance is a legal question rather than a technical one. Any tool promising otherwise is describing marketing, not the model.
The honest recommendation
Use a chat when you are thinking out loud and one picture will do. Use a dedicated generator when the image has a job — a post at a known size, a header for a piece already written, forty listing photos before Friday.
